Re: You got THAT from the restore??!!?

So far I have decided to just buy a case and use my old p3 600mh 448mg ram computer as a internal menu server I'm curious, what do you mean by an internal menu server? By the way, nice having 448mg of ram in an old P3 600. I only have 128mg and 64mg sticks with two slots so the most I can put in mo...

Re: pup_420.sfs & pup_421.sfs

pup_420.sfs & pup_421.sfs are Located at /mnt/home/puppy420. The 421 update is done. Can I now delete pup_420.sfs? --- Bob Once again, as long as your pup_save.2fs has been updated to the newest version which should be done automatically when you first booted 4.21, and you know that grub is boo...

Bob, It sounds like you did a frugal install, and updated by simply copying the files over the old ones. If you know that it is booting into 4.21, then it should be safe to delete the 4.20 sfs file. I simply copied from the CD as well to my frugal install to do the upgrade. However, I renamed the ol...

The presentation language idea is brilliant - a poor man's powerpoint that would take absolutely no extra room on the disk. I checked to see whether there wasn't a Firefox extension that did something like this and did not find one, so you seem to be the first person to think of using a browser for...

New users in the channel seem to be turned off of using puppy more for the following reasons. #1 - lack of full multiuser support (they want each faimly member to have their own account just like other disrtos do) #2 - Confusion in the package manager listings, redundant packages, having to search ...

Check settings in alsamixer.....plus you will effectively have 2 sound cards so maybe applications such as gxine need to be set to the usb rather than the internal one. If the 2 card setup is a problem/confusing you could perhaps disable the internal one if not needed mike Thanks Mike for the reply...

I'd just like to disagree, however, with the emphasis placed on 'positive' feedback, if that were to be read as 'favourable' comment only. When I think of positive feedback it is not just favorable comments only. However, to fill the "blog" space or the "wiki" space or the IRC r...

USB Speakers Recognized but not Working in 4.2

I'm hoping that someone can help me get my external USB speakers working in Puppy 4.2. When I run the Audio config (alsa config) it does a scan and finds that USB speakers, I select them to configure that sound card. I go through all of the steps, but then at the end when I play the test sound, the ...

Might I suggest a little bit of a calmer approach. I'm brand new to Puppy, tried it a year or two ago, didn't like it then, but now I'm really enjoying it. I just installed it on another machine on Friday. I will let you know why I don't stick with Puppy if that happens. But in the mean time, I woul...

It was suggested that I post my comments on Puppy 4.2 in this thread, but in the interest of not cross posting I will give the link to my first post in the forum about 4.2. I guess a lot of my comments in that thread do fit with this thread topic. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=401...

An interesting thread, and now my first post on the forum. I believe there are some things that Puppy can learn from the main line distros, but at the same time, Puppy is #9 on Distrowatch which at least indicates that Puppy is doing a lot of things right already. I will admit that I dismissed Puppy...
