Alternate network connection ideas
If the enclosure you are using for the board has the room there is a PCI expansion slot on the board that should accept a generic 10/100 Network card or you could do as Alice did and try using a USB network connector. Either solution should be fairly cheap, in the $10 to 20 range for the generic PCI...

Some further messing about with media players - have settled on Mplayer after some trials with it, XMMS, and Gxine. My needs are fairly simple - play music files in WMA and MP3 formats stored on a portable hard drive and run the odd DVD movie using a portable slim DVD drive. Now, if I can get Wine a...

Media Players
I might go ahead and try mplayer - gxine has not been all that reliable or usable when trying to play a DVD. My real preference would be Amarok but that requires the full KDE desktop which would defeat the whole purpose of using something like Wolf Pup. Another media player that I've had good result...

Media Player for Wolf Pup
One necessity for me in any set up is a good media player - I'm thinking of using XMMS with Wolf Pup and other than the basic .pet package from the Puppy repository are there any other packages, libraries, etc. that would need to be added to make it work? Thanks in advance for any input.

Wolf Pup and the EeePC
Just a short note to thank Steve for his hard work putting Wolf Pup together. For my purposes it is an ideal fit with the ASUS EeePC set up to boot from a USB key. For anyone interested in getting Wolf Pup set up and running on an EeePC check out this thread in the Hardware/Networking section. http:...

Thank you Glassparrot! Having the wireless disabled in BIOS when the wireless package is installed is the key I was looking for. I had a feeling there was a simple answer and that method worked like a charm. I'm currently working with Wolfpup 1.00 - booting from a USB key - but any 3.01 based Puppy ...

Some observations on PupeeeB4
Downloaded and installed PupeeB4 and set it up to boot from a 2GB USB key and I am quite pleased so far - everything appears to work and the black vista theme looks good. One thing you may want to include in your new control panel application would be a way to easily change default applications for ...

Still no luck...
Still working with the Puppy 3.01NOPr5 and the EeePC - as it currently stands I'm booting from a 2GB USB key and the screen resolution mod works fine. Getting a working internet connection though is another matter - when the .pet packages for the wired and wireless interfaces are loaded the package ...

Make sure you download this file which is 91MB (the former version was 133MB) Where is this 91MB Pupeee of which you speak? I find only a 132MB file at the provided link. Along these lines, I was wondering if dvw86 has considered using a version numbering system for the various iterations of the .i...

Still no wireless connection
Tempestuous, ath_pci module isloaded - at least if the network wizard is to e believed. Since I'm not sure where the problem is I'm posting the output from both lsmod and dmesg in hope that your experienced eye will spot the problem. Makes for a very lengthy post but giving you the entire output mak...

Tempestuous, Many thanks for your reply - went into lib/modules/2.6.21.7/net and found a total of six items that start "ath_..." - tried loading each one individually using the specify option in the network wizard and each one produces the same error message "loading failed try a diff...

EeePC vs. Cloudbook
Thanks DC - an excellent review and one that I concur with 100% - I've looked at the Cloudbook and that placement for the trackpad and mouse is indeed awkward. Add in the issues that folks have had with gOS in the Cloudbook and I'm mighty glad I bought the EeePC!

3.01NOP Puppy on the EeePC
As I said in my post in the Hardware/Network forum last night despite the leads kindly provided by dvw86 (Many Thanks) still no working wireless connection - So this morning I started with a fresh install of 3.01NOPr3 from a disk I know to be good and a new save file as a result. And thankfully the ...

A mixed bag so far
So far a mixed bag - The changes to Xorg worked fine but the network connection still isn't cooperating - a check of the pkg manager shows that the .pet pkgs are there and the line "atl2..." was added to /etc/networkmodules but still no connections. Driver atl2 will not load successfully a...

Puppy NOP
Like your Puppy eee, NOP is based on the 3.01 version of Puppy - Full designation is 3.01NOPr5 for the version I'm using - My preference for it is based on the fact that it is set up from the get go with the XFCE window manager and Opera browser. I'd welcome the info on the Wifi and LAN drivers and ...

Addendum
Did some more looking around including a Google search for and downloading of the Windows driver for the Atheros AR5007EG module that is in the EeePC - version downloaded is 5.3.0.45 - and it included the .inf file that ndiswrapper asks for - loads OK but still no connections are recognized. Given m...
