With regard to Abiword (I imagine this has been discussed before!) what about Ted as a built-in alternative? http://www.nllgg.nl/Ted/ It's pretty light, reads .rtf, has optional plug-ins (eg spell-checking) and I've always found it reliable and responsive - for example it handles a 20mb document inc...

Flsynclient doesn't remember tap settings
I just compiled dwm (tiling window manager) from source in the latest Slacko 6.0 beta (5.9.3). It works fine except the setting for single tap/left click that I made in JWM isn't remembered.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?
Cheers,
Paul

Alpha seems to work pretty well for me, just two things I noticed straight away... GIMP has two entries in the Graphic section of the menu and if I open a terminal and hit backspace when the command line is empty the window flashes - happens with xterm and urxvt. The brightness control on my laptop ...

The first dozen or so lines of this page should make things clearer (at least for Vala) with regard to properties:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Vala/PropertiesSample
My understanding is that 'fields' are just class variables.
Paul.

Vala gtk+ compiling problem
All the little apps I written so far compile no problem so I thought it was time to try a gui program. I installed gtk+3-3.4.4 but when I try: valac --pkg gtk+3-3.4.4 "gtk-app.vala" -o gtk-app I get this error: error: Package `gtk+3-3.4.4' not found in specified Vala API directories or GOb...

@bigpup: I had the same issue on two machines so I've just burned 5.7 to another USB stick. On the first machine I've tried it has loaded the previously created savefile ok (even though the line in syslinux.cfg reads 'append initrd=initrd.gz pmedia=cd' ). I'll try the other machine later. Seems as t...

How was Slacko installed to the USB drive? Be specific with the details. What type drive? USB Flash drive, hard drive, etc...? In this instance it was burned with 'Imagewriter', a standard Mint 13 accessory but the same problem (on 5.6.x Slacko beta) was with an ISO burned from XP using unetbootin....

My savefile problem has returned with 5.7. As I mentioned it further up this thread I thought I'd post here rather than in Bug Reports. Booting off a USB, saving using the defaults (admin, 512mb, no encrypt etc) to sda1 (formatted ext4 and having just Linux Mint installed). Tried saving Puppy in ext...

logout_gui - Rebuild Menu
Not sure whether this is only relevant to the latest Slacko RC or in other Puppys but the rebuild menus option only takes effect (or rather, only shows up immediately) if I restart jwm.
This replacement of line 74 in /usr/sbin/logout_gui fixes it:
refreshjwm)fixmenus; jwm -restart ;;

Modified the .desktop files (locally as an experiment) for items in the 'Documents' section of the menu. A simple hyphen rather than brackets, pipe or some other symbol looks the cleanest separator. Would anyone object to initial capitalization (as I've done with e3)? I think it would look more cons...

Just downloaded 5.6.8, booted off USB and the savefile is now being recognized and properly loaded! While downloading the iso on a Win 7 machine I tried to use GParted on a Linux Mint machine to erase the usb stick but it kept falling over. (I was doing this because I've found difficulty in erasing/...
