Boot with PFIX=RAM

Hi, at the very beginning when Puppy boots you can press F2, then you will get a page with the explanations of boot options. Then key in there "puppy pfix=ram" this will start Puppy with ignoring the save file. This is assuming you are booting Puppy from USB or CD/DVD. For a full install o...

HP Printing Ports

Hi, you can also do a port scan for the IP address of the printer connected to your Wifi network. In my case the following ports are active. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 80 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 81 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 82 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 83 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 443 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 515 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 631 Port 631 ...

Hi Antipodal,

if you are worried to mess up your system by installing something, you can boot Tahrpup 6.0.5 with pfix=ram, that means nothing goes into your save file. Then try to get the printer working. If everything is fine, you can boot normal and repeat the steps.

Network Discovery of HP Printer

Hi, I just tested the following. I booted Tahrpup 6.0.5 with pfix=ram, so in pure original condition. Then I open Cups Printer Wizard found in the Setup menu. This will open the browser at localhost:631/. I select Adding Printers and Classes and then on the next page Find New Printers. This already ...

Hi,

I have no experience with any Brother printers, but the DEB packages should be able to be installed on Tahrpup.

Take a look here for detailed instructions.

HP Printer

Hi, I still have the pets, but the 3.14 versions should also work. My experience is based on Tahrpup 6.0.5. My advise would be to get printing to work first and then only look at scanning. Most important is that you disable the Puppy Firewall. By default I think the port CUPS uses for network printi...

HP MFP M475dn

Hi DP, I'm using Tahrpup 6.0.5 and I had no problems to setup a HP M475dn which is connected to the network with a LAN cable. I presume it doesn't really matter if the printer is connected to the network with Wifi or LAN cable. I installed the hplip_print-3.15.9 pet. Then in CUPS the printer was act...

Chromium 53 hangs when trying to print

I'm using chromium_53.0.2785.116+pepper_23.0.0.162.sfs (from the OpenMandriva Project) on Tahrpup 6.0.5. I observed that Chromium will hang when I try to print a page from the browser directly. Choosing to save as PDF in the print dialog is fine and later printing the PDF is also fine. Maybe a newer...

Printer Discovery

I have downloaded the HPLIP source. It seems the code for device discovery is in /scan/sane/hpaio.c. There is a function static int DevDiscovery(int localOnly) My knowledge of C programming is not so good that I really understand what the code does, so I can only read the comments in the code. It se...

CUPS vs Scanimage

Here it is the other way around. CUPS did automatically discover the LaserJet, but scanimage -L doesn't. Just had the idea to do a port scan on the LaserJet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 80 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 81 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 82 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 83 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 443 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : 515 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...

Test Result

Here the result of my test. It seems both the prnt & scan folders are required. 1) Rename prnt folder to no_prnt & scan to no_scan. Printing and scanning doesn't work anymore. Peasyscan reports "Failed to open device. ... Failure during Device I/O". For printing the job gets stuck ...

HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dn

I installed the pets according to the instruction and copied the ppd. Printing over the network worked as soon as I disabled the firewall.

Scanning also works fine over the network, once setup the config file for PeasyScan.

Thanks a lot for the advise and the pets provided.

HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dn

Hi rcrsn51, I have access to an HP LaserJet Pro 400 color MFP M475dn at work over the network and according to http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/color_laserjet/hp_laserjet_400_colormfp_m475dn.html it needs a plugin. I tried today to connect to it from Tahrpup 6.0.5, but was not successful....

Working great on Dell Optiplex 790

Booted straight to the desktop and network automatically connected. With Wary and Racy 5.3 it was a no go on this machine, due to the graphics card and network card.

Maybe 4 calculators are just one too much of a choice.

Really looking great!
