That's a classic. Copying out the encrypted SAM is a good idea.

Script to install wine and run PortableApps

Hi. I've made a simple script that will check if a user has PortableApps installed in /mnt/home, and then if they do offer to automatically download and install wine so that PortableApps can be run. The latest version of the script is here: http://aronzak.wordpress.com/2009/01/01/portableapps-in-pup...

VLC should be fine, but I'd heard that the Windows version could be illegal in the US (dvd css thing?). I don't think libdvdcss2 is bundled in the Linux version...

Did you try OpenSong? It's available for Puppy and i forget, it's either in the alpha of the next LW or ChurchPup Concordia. It generates not only presentations but also lyric sheets with transposable chords for the instrumentalists, very handy. No, I haven't tried it. Will get a release. OpenLP ha...

BS. OEM's can use any proprietary code they like.

Depends on weather the file is encrypted or not. When you start up, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to text mode. You should be able to copy some files from there.

Nice trick but, If you can boot your puppy, which of the portable apps would you need to use? Just in the off chance that you may know, does nokiaPCsuite work in wine? It's not really so much about need. It's about trying to provide a consistent interface/programs in puppy. If some people have Port...

Re: How to use other partitions?

Okay so is there any way to mount a partition other than the one I had saved for booting Puppy from? Don't know if this is what you're asking, but clicking on the icons at the bottom of the screen, or using the 'mount' icon near the top should do that. If that doesn't answer your question, could yo...

Re: Please will you simplfy puppy linux more

there are just too many codes and technical language used for a lay-person. I just want to notice that Cindy has had replies to her post which include a slab of code, and a suggestion that she might usefully get a "squashfile with Wine" No, the squashfile unnecessary with my script. I pro...

Sorry, I was being facetious.Tech support tends to solve problems but annoy smart users in the process, so much so that many find it easier to fix problems themselves.

Sorry if you've already said this, but does it look like LXDE is in at this stage? BTW, there is a program in portableapps that uses sword. I wonder if it could be integrated? But I'm probably the only person that would appreciate such a feature. .ppt's are probably fairly important for church users...

Re: pup_412.sfs not found

I have managed to copy the contents of a puppy iso image to a folder /puppy I have edited grub to include puppy. When I start the machine I select puppy in grub. Puppy starts to load then I get an error message pup_412.sfs is not found. Try adding "psubdir=/puppy" on to the end of the gru...

I'd suggest having a simple mode/ advanced mode. That way it would be easier to use for someone that has never used it before, but would still have a lot of features. I'd always thought mtPaint's interface is rather simple already; certainly far easier to find one's way around than GIMP or Photosho...

Re: Just the job

Just what I was looking for! Would be happy to test and include in ecopup. Ecopup uses "eco_save.2fs"'s so they dont get overwritten/"upgraded" by standard puppy, but I think I have just about (barely) enough bash knowledge to change it. Perhaps a script to format an existing pu...

The workplace of the future may not include Microsoft. Linux is a great OS but until I can get the same level of support from Linux as I can from Microsoft I wouldn't want to use it in a business.
