Install Puppy on Vmware
An interesting post for me. I have installed Lupu528 as a vm using Vmware Workstation 7 and the results are ok, however I have been unable to install the Vmware tools. The problems are that the gcc binary cannot be found and neither can the linux headers, all references to gcc that I supply are inco...

Update/Upgrade Puppy 5.2
I have Lupu 5.2 installed as a virtual machine using Vmware Workstation 7.2. I have searched and perused the forums, without much luck unfortunately, on how or whether it is possible to update/upgrade a full install of Lupu 5.2. I have read many threads where members say they have updated/upgraded 5...

I think this version is slightly different from normal in that after the installation is finished and before the reboot the Grub bootloader must be run from the menu system, not quite sure where as I don't have my 5.2 handy, but this was one of the problems I ran into while installing to Vmware.

Emil, This is a full hard disk installation of Lupu520 so no filesave was made. I had installed the devx sfs before I ran the vmware tools process which completed successfully except for the error messages re kernel headers, gcc and make. I have a snapshot of the virtual machine which gives me the c...

Emil, Thanks for that input I did manage to find a little information on the rc0 - rc6 directories at the Vmware site. I created these and then ran the Vmware tools again, this time the install went smoothly except that the kernel headers, gcc and make were missing. However despite these errors the ...

Emil, Thanks to your help I now have Lupu5.2 added as a Virtual machine in my Workstation computer. The only thing I haven't managed to do yet is install the Vmware tools. I have downloaded the relevant dev package as you nominated but I am trapped by the following message: What is the directory tha...

Thanks Bigpup, I have this thread bookmarked. Just trying 5.2 as a full install to see what performance hit there might be.bigpup wrote:Look here for the normal ways to run Puppy Linux. It is designed to work best with these methods.

Lupu 5.2 in Vmware: drive not recognized
Just trying to install Lupu 5.2 to a virtual machine using Vmware Workstation 7.2. Lupu does not seem to recognise the vmware drive either as a normal expanding drive or when the drive is pre allocated. Gparted and the Partition manager all draw a blank. Any ideas as to why the drive is not recognis...

Have to revise my previous post somewhat. I have now downloaded the xdelta3 for Mariner, removed the original xdelta3 file, copied the new xdelta3 file into the same directory as the original Mariner iso. This folder was copied to an 8GB usb drive and transferrred to my Toshiba laptop. The Xdelta3gu...

Looks like it's my fault any way. I should have taken more notice of what I was reading. After your post I looked further and there lo and behold was the xdelta3 for the Mariner iso so I'm nw downlading that and will try again. Have Lighthouse pup 5 D which I have been using directly from the cd on a Toshiba laptop, no saved files etc, just reboot from the cd. I have downloaded the xdelta3 to update this version to 5 F, all seemed so simple in the instructions  I copied the original 5 D iso to an Lpup directory and co...

I thought it rather weird as well, personal2 does indeed say that it overrides the theme data. I edited it as text (Geany) and saved as normal, although it didn't appear to have changed it when I checked later. But the jwmrc-theme did change when edited the same way so I'm uncertain as to the reason...

Changing Start Menu Font
Having unsuccessfully searched for a soluution perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. I have Puppy 5.1.1 and have managed to change the font on the desktop but have yet to find the method to change the font on the Start Menu, or even access the menu to change it. On Macpup Foxy 3 chang...
