Is this the machine with the built-in parallel port or the add-on card? For the built-in port, you should only need to run the command: modprobe lp. Then run CUPS. To make this permanent, add the modprobe command to /etc/rc.d/rc.local. Hi rcrsn51 Thank you once again. That worked perfectly and I ha...

CUPS 1.4.8 has no option for parallel port printers
I have installed tahrpup 6.0 which goes nicely but CUPS 1.4.8 does not provide a parallel port option and an hp laserjet 4plus is my only printer. I have Linux Mint running on the same machine and the printer works well as it did in older puppies where CUPS included the parallel port. There must be ...

I could not get the Wary terminal to copy the output. So frustrating. I believe there may be a way but could not find it. I have done a screen copy using mtpaint and it is attached. On /lib/modules/2.6.xx/kernel/drivers/parport there are three drivers listed: parport_cs.ko, parport_pc.ko, and parpor...

Ok I have assumed parport_pc as before and the outputs from the two dmsg | tail entries were as follows: dmesg | tail [ 129.830844] IT8726 SuperIO detected. [ 129.832621] lp: driver loaded but no devices found [ 130.355438] vattery-acpitoo[4518]: segfault at 0 ip b6d4e41c sp bfbb650c error 4 in libc...

The file in modprobe.d was suggested in http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1629616.html and this worked with Mint or Wary ie with earlier 2.6.32 or 2.6.35 kernels with parallel port drivers. I deleted this and the result of dmesg | grep par is: 0.103187]: 3 comparators, 32 bit 25.000000MHz ...

Unfortunately my joy was misplaced! I have two computers both with Saluki but one with an original parallel port and the other with a parallel port card. What you suggested worked fine on the machine with a parallel port. Cups 1.3.11 brought up the LPT option and it worked but it was working anyway....

Solved
Thank you so much! Have just printed a test page. The 4 Plus dates from an era when printers were made to last. Mine got it's fuser jammed recently with a broken gear tooth and when I pulled it apart found how well it was made. Found a local printer guy that had cut his teeth on these and he replace...

Can I install Parallel Port Drivers in a later kernel?
I have an old HP 4Plus parallel port printer of which I am fond. One of my computers does not have a parallel port and so I have used a cheap PCI parallel port card and with the addition of a file in /etc/modprobe.d this works well with the 2.6.32 kernel. I tried the same thing on this computer with...

Opera 10.60-6386 vertical shift
I am using this on a Compaq M700 800 MHz Pentium 3 and at first it went well but has recently shifted up the screen so that the tabs and menu bar cannot be seen and a small amount to the left. I have tried re configuring X to no affect and when I installed a copy of Opera 10.10 there were no problem...

Laptop overheating with Quirky 0.1.8 and Opera 10.60
Hi I have used Puppy since version 1.7 and Opera since about v. 3.5 and at the moment am using a Compaq M700 Pentium 3 with 800 MHz and 256 MB ram but with the long awaited Opera 10.60, it overheats. The difference with Seamonkey is really noticeable in the tray display. At present am staying in Ver...

I still have this problem from time to time and now realise it is because I live in a residential community and we are all on the same network and many people seem to have Macs. i don't know how it happens but other people's Mac printers seem to install on my computer. At present, I can't install a ...

Thanks for replying bugman. Your suggestion to look at toolbars helped. For some reason, audacity starts up with the Device toolbar unselected and i had missed this. Enabling it gave me the inputs and outputs I was looking for , but regardless of the choices i make here, when I select the red record...

Audacity Lacks Input selector on Mixer Toolbar
Hi I have downloaded and installed the audacity 1.3.5 PET file and audacity seems to start up ok but I can't record anything and the mixer toolbar has input and output level sliders but no input selector. It is missing completely. I am running it on a Compaq Armada M700 850MHz Pentium 3 with 256MB r...
