great Puppy version
Thank you for a great version of Puppy. The only one to work on my main desktop machine - found the soundblaster card and Nvidia Geforce GT220 graphics card worked with the Nvidia driver. Google earth works well. Also running well on my Portege A100 laptop and from a CF card in this compaq evo deskt...

running well on Toshiba Portege Ultraportables. My main laptop is the A100 model. Works also on the A200.
My preferred version is 431.
Wireless, sound and video all work perfectly. These are quiet, fast and portable puppy machines.

I must add that I like Pnethood, it works, it´s fast and have a good look and feel. Is sad to know that you won´t update Pnethood any more, Absolutely - it's one of the programs on puppy which gets the most use. Along with grsynch it is how I keep my files in order. Only improvement I can think of ...

wine and viruses
Not involving wine but a friend saved a file onto his usb memory stick at an internet cafe and at the same time picked up a nasty autorun virus. Since I had set up his laptop with Puppy Linux he was not affected. However, problems started when he used his memory stick again to take a document to a f...

I've used Clonezilla successfully to copy from one hard drive to another. Succeeded in cloning the data to a newer hard drive and successfully swapped the hard drives over.

conky for beginners
Hi, Thanks for these instructions. Having implemented them I have conky working - great - but the transparent background is only there for a second while it loads and then the dark background is back again.
Any chance someone knows how I might set about fixing it? All help much appreciated, thanks.

hard drive faliure
I read in a tech news article (Znet) that there are two types of companies - those who have experienced data loss and those who are about to. I work with the idea that no man made item is 100 percent reliable. Having seen many broken computers over the last year or so I have personally experienced t...

Re keeping the image there for the whole of the boot up process - Tiger Pup does this very well (amongst other things - the 3d desktop is great too).

rescue
True - rescue is not something I like to practice either. Personally I like to keep my data (documents, photos etc) backed up - onto flash drives and external hard drives. I also keep data in a separate partition from the operating system to make this easier. I dual boot with windows and Puppy (late...

windows problems come with wine
While connecting a selection of external hard drives and pens this virus which comes with an auto run file managed to spread itself onto every drive and partition. This was using wine with puppy dingo. Wine version 1. Puppy 4.0. I don't run wine since that experience!

I was told today I am getting almost evangelical about Puppy. I fix people's computers and like to put in a good word for Linux when I see the mess a windows machine can get into. Puppy is my operating system of choice and has had such a positive influence on my life and my ability to operate a comp...

Hello
:) Good to hear yet another device has been converted to run puppy. Interesting to read how you did it since I had a similar issue with a PentiumII toshiba notepad. This week I got Puppy 4.1.1 running on it and I am very pleased with it. I also had to remove the drive from the machine due to a lack ...
