Yes, nothing wrong with the concept, but there was nothing wrong with that concept when MS first started doing it either, and look how that has been abused.

PPM should give an option to turn off notifications.

All very nice, but it would be good if this sort of behaviour had been notified to Puppy users beforehand.
Has this been announced anywhere?

There should at least be an option somewhere to turn off notifications.

I just got online with Precise 5.4.2, and only visited packages.ubuntu.com, to see if a particular package was available, and what dependencies needed. I then checked in PPM to see what it had to say about the same package. Then a Puppy-looking popup appeared saying an important update is available ...

I have found that the file needs to be in the top level or root directory or nothing happens.
And NoScript must be off.
