I like VLC - works well 'straight out of the box' and is available from Puppy download manager. I have not had any trouble with mp3 files but as suggested above your file may be corrupt - try another. It will also give you access to hundreds of streamed radio stations from all over the world. Alan

Thank you for your reply. As to updating, I will follow your advice. I installed some packages and was presented with a list of missing dependencies - rather than try to download them one at a time I was hoping that they could be done in bulk. It is not a real problem since everything works very wel...

system update - SOLVED

I am running Puppy 5.1.1 and Ubuntu 10.10. In Ubuntu the system is checked daily by Update Manager and updates are downloaded.

How can I keep Puppy up-to-date?

How can I also download necessary dependencies (other than doing them one by one)?

Thanks for your help

How to upgrade Puppy without losing settings? - SOLVED

I have 4.1 installed and updated with many packages.

How do I upgrade to 4.1.1 (and later to 4.2) without losing all my settings and other things I have installed?

TIA

I downloaded "devx_410.pet" and just clicked on it. The Pet package manager installed it OK for me without any problems. I now have GCC, G++ and MAKE installed

I have installed several packages using ./configure, make and make install as normal.

How to edit the Start Menu? - SOLVED

How can I rename or delete a Start Menu item?

Using right click only opens the item - it doesn't give me a menu like other OS's.

TIA

Puppy 4.1 - installing Printer - SOLVED

I am using CUPS to install a Canon BJC 210 printer. Near the end of the installation process it asks for a user name and password or a root name and password. I have not entered any passwords when installing Puppy. What can I give CUPS so that I can finish installing the printer? Or how can I bypass...

Is Petget Package manager kept up-to-date?

I have used Install > Petget Package Manager to download and install packages.

I have installed Pidgin 2.4.1 but I want to update to the current version - 2.5.1

Is the list of available packages kept up-to-date?

Hi CatDude

I followed your instructions down to point 7.

Then I waited and waited and waited.....

I mean I waited for an hour while I did something else and the process seemed to be stuck.

Any suggestions??

TIA

Praise from a newcomer to Puppy

Just a few observations on my use of Puppy so far. I live in a small country town in Australia and my aim is to discourage people from throwing away perfectly usable computers just because they are no longer able to run Windows. I have been trying to install Puppy on a very old (circa 1997) computer...
