correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that that grey screen with the x is in all actuality a usable gui; just right click with the mouse to get a "start menu" with your program listings. i've seen that happen in redhat on occasion.

basically, yes; you boot your computer normally, and then run qemu to start puppy as a separate os within the windows environment
