Woof- distro binary compatibility

So... if i go into DISTRO_SPECS and need the built distro to be compatible with the puppy 4.3 series, what should i do? right now, i have DISTRO_BINARY_COMPAT set to 'puppy' (the obvious choice), but then, for Puppy 4.3, would i set DISTRO_COMPAT_VERSION to 4, 43, 431, or 4xx (or none of the above?)...

Yeah, small would be awewsome, and always the ideal. But, the primary benefit of debian basing would be the repositories. In theory, at least, a dev would be installing a lot of software, and debian provides high quality packages for nearly every piece of free software out there, and despite the har...

To be quite honest, I've never been a fan of ROX. Another thing I've always wanted was multiuser support (keeping root only mode as a pfix option). Seeing as several have already attempted to add in this support with limited success, getting rid of ROX seemed the more viable option. However if this ...

Develpup again?

Alright. So, i realized that this is my first forum visit in nearly 8 months (how time flies), and i feel bad for leaving the community, especially given the fair amount of interest i had at the time. So, i'm looking to re-start the project, using the excellent woof puppy builder that seems to be th...

Package versions in 5 series

Does anyone know what the package versions for puppy 5 series will be? will the older packages in 4 still be used or are we going to use more current package versions? a bunch of the newer gnome packages won't compile, for example, because the gtk+, glib, etc. versions are not current, and its diffi...

well... does anybody happen to know when a version of puppy will come out that will have current versions of gtk et all? Seriously, i'm in ./configure pkg-config hell. i tried installing two versions side by side so i don't break the rest of the packages... but then, pkg-config sees gtk in /opt but ...

well yes. i am not a huge fan of RAD anyway, so that won't be a problem. thing is i was *contemplating* reviving my old develpup project, though with smaller ambitions to be a puppy developing for puppy type of distro instead of one size fits all devs type idea :D. Anyway, i've been trying to compil...

It's not even a limitation of my video card. it boots perfectly into full resolution when i manually edit xorg.conf. Thanks for that tip, btw. anyway, it was just a limitation of xorgwizard. My suggestion: Wouldn't configuration be much smoother if (when xorgwizard doesn't recognize your monitor/car...

Which IDE is best for Puppy?

what IDEs are the best for development in puppy? I know Code::Blocks is good, but it has additional dependencies on wxWidgets... i know that we have GTK, so is anjuta a good choice? yes, i know of the handy features of geaney, but i'm looking for something a little "heavier". Is there anot...

How to set 1600x900 monitor resolution?

I just got a new monitor (a hannspree 19") and when xorgwizard started the monitor was unrecognized. unfortunately, it seems like widescreen view modes are unsupported. instead of being able to set the resolution to the native resolution of 1600x900, i had to set it to 1440x900. now, this isn't...

Busybox Swapoff

Though i haven't had much time to do anything computer-wise, i have been able to use puppy occasionally. I was using gparted and realized that the swap drives were mounted so i just unmounted with swapoff -a. Except it never did unmount the swap drives. I ended up having to look up the device number...

Package Management?

One of the larger barriers to entry it seems for regular users is the lack of a central package repository. Yes, there ARE many packages that are built as "official" packages for unleashed and such, and those ARE included in the pupget dialog, but it seems like a central package management...

The only reason i wanted to write a shared library is because instead of having all of the parsing functions together and edit a global struct, he has all sorts of functions spread across multiple files. I was thinking that a library might simplify things for future developers. Anyway, thanks for yo...

Does anyone plan on developing with any of the following languages: --Python (I'm planning on including IDLE) --Java (and which IDE do you favor? Eclipse? JWM Config

OK, just a few things i wanted to ask. I am currently in the planning stages of writing a JWM theme editor. Most of the frontend is done (not all, yet), but as for the backend to edit JWM's XML config files... it's not going very fast. My current idea (instead of messing with libxml... eeeeewwwww, i...

One question about included packages: Is tinyXML included and if so is it compiled to use the STL? EDIT: I asked this because i'm working on a JWM theme configuration dialog, and wanted to know if i had to parse the XML myself or there was third party libs or JWM/IceWM had it's own XML parser. Thanks!

Ahhh. Well, i haven't gotten around to doing much of anything with well, anything. I'm currently too busy. I apologize to anyone who wanted the release to go on. Most likely it will but the final 1.0 release will only be available come summertime. I will eventually get around to working again, but i...
