I am leaving in hopes that Puppy will improve. This is as much a paise to puppy linux as it is a seeya message. ____ On the note of making my OWN Puppy.. Yes, I know it's possible, but seeing as how I want to avoid busybox, LFS would actually be easier. You need the core bin-utils to funtion, busybo...

Leaving Puppy

I first got into linux for one reason.... I didn't have a hard drive. Being that I couldn't boot from USB, Puppy was a simple, good choice. It does great booting from CD and loading all my files the way I want... I have yet to see any only OS that can do it. Now that I am well into linux (after near...

I just realized I never thanked you... so..

Thanks ttuuxxx!

Conky is my only app that I have started automatically, and I couldn't be happier.

Of course I went through and changed the layout quit a bit, then finally but it on the desktop and made it transparent, really cool.

Interesting.... but since I started using linux I have not had a hard drive. XP killed it :P lol I took a look at Puppy 2.15CE and DCL2008 tonight. Gave me a nice idea of what different WM can be set up to be like. I know I could just download the WMs I want to try and configure them to be all neat ...

Multiple Puppy or just one?

Just curious if you've tried several Puppy pupplets and if so, Have you narrowed it down to one or do you use multiple pupplets? I personally only use Puppy 4.0 right now. I am still quite new to linux in general, so I still go download happy sometimes. I've have also taken a look at: -Puppy 4.1 Ret...

Sorry, I like water, but I love coca-cola.. it's my drug of choice.

Coke may be bad for me, but there's much worse stuff out there.

Until puppy 4.1 pfix=noram would do what you want.

for some reason 4.1 won't stop copying to ram until there is a save file present. (of course I'm no expert)

Your likely thinking of Mozilla's IRC client known now as Chatzilla. it's available for all their browsers, but sometimes you have to dig. I went back to the instantbird download page and it said in the system requirements "100MB free hard drive space" .... ah, ya, not gonna have the room ...

here's the link again because metre9dmt seemed to forget the "url" bb line in his post.

If you go about changing any of Puppy's default scripts make sure to back them up first obviously. I prefer to tar -cvzf the back up, so then you only need to extract if you want to restore, no need to create an extra directory or anything funny like that. Just a note for bash: like any language you...

I did the same thing myself.. I wrote a script to mount a pup_save.2fs file. I learned later after I posted about that Puppy already had a script to do so. The only difference was that my script was meant to run from an unmounted drive. Here was my first (and second to umount it) scripts: http://www...

My story is actually about the same, except I didn't get mad, the computer(s) did. To make it short, Windows seems to hate my hard drives. I lost my first one to a bad WinXP install about 5 months ago. About a month before that I had started using puppy, so that all I needed to carry was a CD and a ...

Not sure why the Mount system was not unmounting then. Try using the mut mount engine with the GUI mount. There's a little button on the bottom-left that says "Engine : default" , click this, check the box, and hit ok. I'm pretty sure that this only detects different type of drives/files, ...

Sorry about that... I forgot that when setting a variable you do not type the "$" but instead is implied. So use export DRIVE=sda1 or whatever label your drive is. I never thought about using the idea of $PWD, that could work as well... but then the script has to be on your drive. Up to yo...

Puppy should copy to the RAM by default. If you are booting from the USB drive then I would assume that you have your pup_save.2fs on there as well.. and that would be why you can't unmount it. Puppy copies the files required to tell the PC what to do (the kernel I believe) but not the pup_save.2fs ...

You can simply use a variable... For example: /mnt/$DRIVE/ Instead of: /mnt/sdb1/ To define the variable you would export it and then run the script. Lets say your drive comes up sdc2 and your script is name podcast2flash.sh... then you would: export $DRIVE=sdc2 ./podcast2flash.sh But you already kn...

I believe that if you booted using

Code: Select all

puppy pfix=purge,nox
that it could fix your problem. Make sure to reboot as soon as you get to the promt.

Hope you the best!

You should be able to install software on a FAT16/32 partion with a problem. It's been a while since I used it (I was one of the unfortionit souls that had major problems with windows are the use of wine). But I would think that during the install you should be able to choose the path of your instal...
