Minor stuff on 245:
No way to change the timezone. When you go to Desktop | Country Settings | Set Timezone, Puppy displays a "Usage for Xdialog" screen.
On first boot, if you add or move desktop icons, your changes will be lost. Once the savefile has been created, changes are retained.

Yes, I was installing from cd. But I got a very similar error when I tried to install Arch Linux from cd, so I think it's just a matter of not getting the setup right. The system, either Arch or Debian, reaches a point in booting where it's trying to mount the partition the system is installed on. T...

This seemed like a really good idea, since I use Firefox and Opera on both Puppy and Windows on my main computer. I've used Speed Dial on both browsers for a long time, and I've always wanted to be able to keep them in sync. So I followed the instructions and built a nice Speed Dial page, with a bac...

(Reposting. Something ate the original post.) A fresh frugal install of Luci-238. So far all is good. I was able to run flSynclient (for my touchpad settings) right out of the box, without having to run Xorgwizard first. That's convenient. A few minor items: 1. Can't adjust timezone. Desktop | Count...

Tried to install Debian, I now appreciate Puppy
I hadn't appreciated how easy Puppy is to use and to install until I tried to install some other distros. Over the last few days I have spent a lot of time attempting to install Debian. I've also made some half-hearted attempts to install Arch and Knoppix. I am now truly impressed with how easy it i...

Why does video work if it's not defined in xorg.conf?
I'm running Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 on a new Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I'm trying to understand how and why X operates, even though the video and touchpad aren't defined in xorg.conf. When I installed Puppy (frugal install) it booted up fine without running xorgwizard. The video is exactly how it need...

SOLVED -- What is the purpose of multiple desktops?
Pardon the stupid question, but since I honestly don't understand this feature I thought I'd ask. Why and how do you use multiple desktops? If I open my browser, or OpenOffice, on desktop 1, and then switch to desktop 2 and start the browser, I find myself in the already-opened session, and back on ...

Seaside, Thank you. I created the symlinks by copying your code into rxvt. (This is a good place to repeat how you paste something into rxvt: control-v doesn't work. Use shift-insert instead.) About:plugins does show that the GoogleTalk plugin is installed. But... it doesn't work. When you click 'Ca...

Installing Opera has crippled Firefox and Midori
After installing Opera (using the .deb from the Opera website, not the package from the Lucid repository), Firefox and Midori now run for less than 5 seconds before crashing. I re-loaded my frugal install and started over from scratch. (Which isn't a big deal.) Installed Firefox again, installed Ope...

Can't adjust touchpad
A bit of a mystery with the touchpad on my laptop. (Toshiba, with a Synaptics touchpad. I'm running Lucid 5.11.) The touchpad works just fine. I'd like to tweak the settings, though, and I'm having problems with that. From the menu, I go to Desktop Settings | FlSynclient. FlSynclient displays, and o...

You need to run xorgwizard first to create a complete xorg.conf--the auto config does not need to do that so it doesn't. The complete instructions are on Barry's blog. One question. Was the driver that was automatically chosen or chosen by xorgwizard not working in some way? The Nvidia driver shoul...
