Sorry, I'm no longer a Puppy user - switched to Debian Squeeze more than a year ago for other reasons. I'm still a Puppy lover, though, and keep Wary as an occasional backup system. But can't compile stuff for Puppy readily any more.

I haven't made the switch to Lucid Puppy yet because my life is a little crazy and I'm very short on time now, but hope to do it with 006 (or final). In that case I expect to compile / try to find the packages for the following and will try to make Quick Packages out of them: 1. Claws Mail (latest) ...

Thanks a lot, Pizzasgood. For anyone else reading this thread who, like me, was initially confused about how to use sudo in a script when it will prompt for a password, you can use the -S command line option to make it read the password from standard input. Another and more secure option is here: ht...

multiuser environment: mounting devices from script

Hi I have a couple of backup scripts that I wrote in Puppy - very basic, clunky things, but they work for me and have saved me many times from pen drive crashes, lost pen drives etc. Once in a while I experiment with other distros in persistent mode on my flash drive (current experimental candidate ...

Seems from that the main points are: 1) too expensive and 2) too large, if one is to produce the wattage of a typical netbook. But Iunika claimed to have actually done it - and at a very low price. Hence I wonder what happened to that netbook, was it ever released, etc. Besides, while I don't know a...

solar powered netbook

Once upon a time (may 2009 actually) there was a lot of talk about a solar powered netbook . Yeah, it had very low specs, but would have been good with Puppy it seems. I'm fascinated by it. But anyone know what happened to it? It was to be released in June / July 2009, but no one seems to have heard...

Re Q5Sys' chrome problem:

There's a fix for this (found it some months ago when I had the same problem in dpup) - find the directory where google-chrome is installed (it may be in /opt), go into it, and rename the file "chrome-sandbox" to something else. This worked for me.

I can't seem to download the synaptic pet. Is there another location I can get it from? I tried the dpup.org site. Craig The synaptic dotpet was made for 477beta1 - rather out of date now. If you have that, you can find it under additions in the 477beta1 directory here . I really doubt it will work...

But what a palaver to set up wlan0 again!! I had to go through the process over and over, before eventually getting a connection set up. How can a scan show no networks available, then another scan a few seconds later show five? gerry Gerry - you probably have an atheros wifi card, in fact I think ...

TazOC, would it be too difficult to post xdeltas for the individual main files (spup-443.sfs, vmlinuz and initrd.gz) as well? Those of us who run flash drive based Puppies don't always keep the ISO (I know I don't, for the sake of saving space).

I don't know if anyone has been able to use Compiz with an Intel display adapter in LHP. I don't have an Intel box to test with. Some have had success with MU's Alternative Xorg/xserver 1.6.3/Intel pets but I haven't seen anything re: Compiz and those pets. I think you'll need the Mariner SFS for D...

Hi, I'm new to Upup, though an old puppy user and using dpup now for several months. Thought I'd give Upup a whirl. It looks nice, I like the icon scheme etc. But one question - don't know if this has already been addressed, couldn't find it when I skimmed the thread - I find Upup 4.58 very slow on ...

Firefox just won't behave for me- when I scroll up or down, the screen gets sliced into overlapping horizontal bands. Hi. Sorry, I'm dumb, but how do I start the program once it's downloaded and mounted? There doesn't seem to be a menu option, and none of the commands I tried did anything. It's not a dumb question, it's one of the things Puppy does a little differently from other distros. This distro has many diff...

Hi Tazoc and friends, 1) I have downloaded the Mariner ISO with the KDE SFS built in. I'd like to try using KDE 4 Desktop Effects on one of the systems which I use Puppy on (the xorg.conf of this system is attached). KDE Desktop Effects has worked before on this system in other distros (e.g. Sidux)...

Gerry, Around line 23 I see something about the i915_dri.so not found/not loaded. With pfind you can see if it's on your system. That's interesting, I have the same error. May be worth checking out like you say... Also, did you check the download of the ISO with the checksum? I just had an experien...
