Is this for ATI Mobility (laptop cards) or the desktop cards?
Are there any benefits except gaming performance?

I have to agree with Fiberflinger, at least to some degree. Unless you are a Linux guru, most people probably need to spend a LOT of time learning and configuring this and that just to do simple things like installing a piece of software or connecting to a wireless network. It took me about a month ...

What is your Boot time. On my snadisk cruzer I have a boot time of 50sec on two of my computers and 1min 14seconds on my new old laptap It is 3+ min on an SD card with a reader which is slow. Boot time is 66 sec, now with 4.1 beta. BTW, I use the option to load all into ram, which slows the booting...

USB stick speed and boot times
I got a new fast USB stick (OCZ ATV Turbo, > 30 MB/s read speed), hoping to get a faster boot of Puppy than from my old stick with 1/3 the speed. However, the boot-time is only ~ 10% faster with the new stick. Why? Does it depend more on CPU and RAM speed? 1.6 GHz, 512 RAM, Puppy 4.00 k2.6.21.7 (..y...

StanF, I am newbie to Linux and Puppy, so I may be way off, but here goes: Have you tried a frugal install instead of a full install? I believe with a frugal install applications will start much faster, as they are all in the RAM (and I think you have sufficient RAM). The downside is a slower bootup...

I think the non-cleartype is a bit too thin and blocky; the cleartype is just right; and my Puppy Opera fonts are waaaay too heavy.

Update: after doing a bit of searching and reading about Linux vs. Windows vs. Mac fonts, I realize that what fonts people like is highly subjective. I have seen example comparisons posted, where I find the Linux fonts horrible, while others have the opposite preference. Ideally, I would like to be ...

Hi Gray, I like Boxpup, it looks really nice! I have a few problems and suggestions. 1. If I change the global font size (and restart), Opera will start mostly outside the screen, with only a small corner of the program visible and no way to move it. The only way I found around this problem is to sh...

I am a Linux newbie trying to get my Puppy to look a little nicer. Every small step seems to require a huge amount of study for the non-Linux expert. I downloaded Monica for addjusting the gamma, as suggested in another thread, but when I run it I get the message that xgamma is missing. So I tried t...

By device, do you mean my wireless card? It's an Intel PRO Wireless 2200 BG. Yes, yes. That means that your wifi driver should be the ipw2200. Re: Solving Wifi encryption problems (WEP/WPA) in Puppy 4
I thought that crypto_blkcipher was related to WEP encryption, but I see from JustGreg's results in Puppy4.01alpha2 that the crypto_blkcipher module is loaded after a WPA connection ... so maybe it's necessary for both WEP and WPA. When I tried to load I got a message saying "driver not found&...

Re: Solving Wifi encryption problems (WEP/WPA) in Puppy 4
UPDATE June 9 2008: In recent kernels there is one more important cryptographic module related to wifi - crypto_blkcipher Some wifi modules do not use generic cryptographic modules, but have unique encryption-related modules. For example, the ath_pci (MADWiFi) module depends on the wlan_wep module....
