Some may argue on a Constitutional Basis, that such a back-door leading to intrusion by the government IS placing (quartering) a soldier in our home, and/or with our personal possession (regarless of liscense/contract) that may be located in the home and/or on the person. This phrasing is very much ...

I like that one.

Reminds me of the old "Yo Semite" park with rabbi. Some actually thought it was a Jewish park.

Curl update 7.71

Yesterday 06/24 Slackware updated Curl to version 7.71. This update is an easy one... no symlinks. You may delete the usr/DOC if you don't work with Curl alot. The new root/.package can be moved to the Builtin Folder, with deletion of the most recent 'old' version. (Keep the 7.6.1 version, as its th...

Special Register Buffer Data Sampling

Theres a warning and patches available for the subject SPECTRE/MELTDOWN offense. From the Linux Kernel Org site: SRBDS is an MDS-like speculative side channel that can leak bits from the random number generator (RNG) across cores and threads. New microcode serializes the processor access during the ...

Generally speaking here... Most pups use 40-80Mb ram when running, but open a new browser, and it will jump to about 300Mb  So its good you have a swap. Some how, you need a pup with a series 3 kernel. All of these will support SSE,SSE2, etc. Youtube is becoming a problem. Google in spite of th...

GnuTLS update

Slackwaare has released an update to gnutls to fix a rather nasty exploit involving TLS1.3... not only can an attacker intercept/control, it can read exchanges using TLS1.2. I consider this a high risk. Download the new gnutls from the Slackware security webpage link provided in the default bookmark...

I had a peek at your 3.9 version for slacko's.

Seems that gtk needs to be 2.3
IIRC slacko5.7 is 2.1

You might have to trace HTML libs, some have html in the name.

I will opine that while the Slackware 14.1 runs about the same as the 'Puppies', the general size of OS and memory consumption might favor puppies. I also have an Atom-netbook, and these pups can be very light and strong, like a Jack Russel Terrier. Admittedly... its the browser that bogs down a lot...

WEATHER

One of the links provided in AtomicPup-2020 is a weather map of the US provided by the National Weather Service. A rather useful expediture of one's tax $$$. However, very recently, it has stopped producing those precipitation overlays upon the map, regional and local. The rest of the site works wel...

The version of fribidi is suspect, and if its 64-bit capable.
Old JWM uses it and no problems... newer veersions of JWM probably use a newer version of fribidi. Slacko5.7 shows libfribidi.so.0.3.1 dated 3/2014

To alter 12/24 hour setting
Try MENU --> Desktop --> JWM Windows Settings --> Clock

Works on older JWM's maybe this one too.

*** PS: what version of fribidi is installed in the problematic/non-problem versions... JWM 905 using 0.3.1 dated 3/2014 ***

Frankly, is there any reason you can't just power DC-rated equipment, such as computers, smartphones, etc using a 12V output (or more modernly 5V). I recall that camping and automobile equipment (including stove, 'frige, AirCond, Car Entertainment, etc) are all designed to operate 12VDC (some with N...
