No Xorg session

Hi Guys, I am trying to boot Puppy 5.0 on a Toshiba Satellite A10 which has no hard drive and always works flawlessly with Puppy, including 4.31. The new version boots, but the screen just goes blank and doesn't get any further so I assume the new xorg commands are not detecting the display properly...

New version of 4.3 and md5sum's

Hi the prodigal drbongo here! In have been away from the kennel (AWOK?) for a while but I am very impressed with 4.4, nice looks, plenty of really useful new apps and the same lightening fast response. The only thing I am confused about is that fact that Barry said he was going to upload the new ver...

Solved!

Thanks for the tip, I was using partitions made by previous versions, Debian in this case. I simply reformatted the main partition as Ext2, and left the swap as it was. Reinstalled Puppy and everything works just fine.

Puppy not booting.

Hi Kal I will collect the file and send it back to this thread, but it may be tomorrow. I had already formated the Partition to ext3 and swap using gparted before I even booted Puppy, so i installed it to the existing partition which was identified as sda1 by Puppy and hd(0,0) by grub. I didn't do a...

Can't get Puppy 4.2.1 to boot after HD install!

Hi haven't been on this forum for a long while, I have tried to install 4.2.1 onto two different computers as a full hard drive install. The install process completes successfully and I install Grub to the mbr like I usually do, but when I reboot I get a grub error 15 message. I have checked the gru...

Accessible Puppy!

Hi I been away from the Puppy Linux Forum for a while and have lost touch with developments. I am very interested in the Puppy for the Blind idea (I have just released a customised version of Ubuntu for the Blind - Vinux) but I am also interested in making a console based version of puppy using YASR...

Don't fix something that ain't broke!

I don't think that Puppy needs any major changes! It is a pretty good basic operating system as it is. Once 4.1 is finished and any final bugs are removed we will have a very stable, flexible GTK2 OS with a fairly up to date kernel. All it will require is bug fixing and updating from time to time. P...

tux don't go!

tux, Most of the people who read the discussion in the forum where shocked at the personal attack on you. But this does not reflect the views of most of the regulars. This is obviously an emotional issue and feeling are running high. You must know that people often flame on forums but you should not...

The future of Puppy Linux

It is a great shame that Barry has decided step back from being the lead developer of Puppy Linux, because although there was a strong contributing community it gave the distro a focus to bring it all together. This situation which leaves a 'power vacuum' in small individual led projects is always a...

901 wifi

DingoPlus was built and tested on an Asus Eeepc 701. I do not have a 900/901 to try but the ATL2 driver is for the ethernet on the 701 not the wireless. Other people using the 900 series have also had problems with wifi and some function buttons. As soon as there is a fix available for the 900 serie...

DingoPlus Development

I have decided to freeze further development of DingoPlus until the release of Puppy 4.1! This mainly to a lack of time due to family/work commitments but also because it is relatively stable and 4.1 should resolve most of the issues which are generic to Dingo rather than specific to DingoPlus. I am...

Puppy package manager bug

This is not strictly a bug in Dingoplus, because the new puppy package manager does not allow you to resize the frames and even if you maximise it the frames remain the same size. I found that if I hid the taskbar I could see the very top entry of the installed apps window. I think you can also remo...

Light staying on!

I have noticed that the light sometimes stays on, but not always. I don't see this as a major bug, but I will certainly look into it as soon as possible. If I can recreate the effect at will then I will probably be able to change it. I will have another look at some of the extras in the pupeee repos...

Nevermore,

I have not tested the video camera yet, but I have installed the drivers for it. I did not include any applications that used it. I will certainly look into this as I am thinking of including skype in a later version.

Feedback and suggestions for changes and additions.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I will certainly take these into consideration when creating the next edition which will probaby be based on 4.1 etc. In the meantime I am concentrating on making sure there are no serious bugs or compatibility problems with the current version. I hope to...

Puppy Package Manager Bug!

I have discovered a small bug in the Puppy Package Manager in the latest version of DingoPlus. I had eliminated this bug in the first version, but stupidly forgot to fix it when I fixed the ipw3945 bug. Basically when you open the Puppy Package Manager, there is no listing for Puppy 2 and 3 packages...

DingoPlus Feedback

Jakfish Thanks for the feedback. I am glad you got it working in the end. I hope it was worth the effort. I don't have access to a 900 series, and at the moment have no intention to buy one as the whole point of the eeepc for me was the portability and flash drive etc. I chose to keep the original p...
