no extended attribute nowhere...

Following this thread with the greatest interest... Unfortunately, Slacko 5.5, frugal install, I don't get any success with the extended attribute on every single one of my partitions (got the "Operation not supported" everywhere I tried). Could it be the way I mount them or the fact that ...

I am not a native user of English so easy to miss on grammar things :) I ain't native either, so my syntax might just be off ;) Just me trying to get it. Do you both have a symlink pointing to the .mozilla and then a real .mozilla both in root Seems odd to me I trust it is me not able to read you t...

Yeah, those are the instructions I used to build wine with proper patches from scratch, but without luck. I must be missing something.

I would like a few volunteers to try just the menu using clean frugal installs on some different Puppys with different window managers and panels. Hi Mobeus, I run Micko's Compiz sfs with pcmanfm/lxpanel to manage desktop and menu (what he calls "xwin dummy2"), so it won't be testing from...

I now want to use Firefox 20 instead of FF17 but seems my structure to have .mozilla on the /mnt/home makes the updating confused. Not sure what to do about it. Hi Nooby, not sure how to solve your clock/date issue. I personally run Cairo-dock 3.2 which has a very nice clock plugin and removed the ...

Hi Simargl, I'm following the thread on and off and the alphaOS looks very promising. I got a bit confused by the package system. On one hand, it seems the default Arch packages can be installed using pacman, on the other hand I see you come up with a list of packages you're building yourself from s...

Hi Mobeus,

thanks for the tip; it was so obvious that I missed it.
Now, as far as the magical appearance of items in the menu, what is happening here? Is LxPanel going through your .desktop folder everytime you select the menu? I can't see any lag, but isn't it kind of inefficient?

Perfect timing

Hi Mobeus, the timing of your post is fantastic... Few days ago, I posted a question about lxpanel and its menu structure in particular in the Slacko 5.5 thread and got no response yet (see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84157&start=360 ). I was wondering why some apps show up ...

Multimedia keyboard volume knob and multimedia buttons

I have a Dell keyboard with a multimedia volume control knob and bunch of other shortcut buttons like browser, home directory, mute,etc... Amazingly, Slacko 5.5 had the volume knob working out of the box in default jwm. But because one is never happy as is, I felt the need to install Compiz (which w...

<Add: Another thing I learned is that there is now a Netflix app for ubuntu (at least. It includes wine, silverlight, and mono so it is 250MB at least--but it did work. Hi Playdayz, did you try that PPA on Ubuntu, or did you go hardcore and git Wine+patches, then full build from scratch? I attempte...

gulk, There is a reason I have disabled suspend on USB installs, this is a very generic script and it's designed to avoid RAM crash because USB installs run entirely in RAM until the scheduled save occurs, but if it works for you then that's fine, maybe someone else will find that useful. I underst...

Audio CD

It is my understanding that older puppies did show an icon for music cds. Is there any way to incorporate that feature in 5.4? I think in the "Desktop->Desktop Drive icon manager", there is an option to check that is unchecked by default: "Tick box for auto-launch 'handler' when medi...

firefox hanging while loading pages

@darkstrike,

please start firefox from a console; I think I had the issue you mentioned and it was coming from a incompatible https library. Once I fixed that, the problem went away. I don't remember exactly what I fixed, but if you give me the error message from your console, it might ring a bell.

megaupload

As you've probably seen in the news, megaupload is in trouble for piracy... I used it a bunch of times to put some .pet there. I am not going to apologize because my use of the above mentioned site was genuine and in no way related to piracy. However, if someone would like to get to these pet files,...

Thanks for pointing this out. I was actually wondering why Aurora was proposed when choosing Firefox in Slickpet. Aurora is the test bed for Firefox, and although it didn't give me any trouble, it is still considered a non-stable version. I just followed Lobster's method to install the standard Fire...

Since I'm starting to get the hang of it, I compiled a password manager app that I like because of its cross-platform capability. The main app pet file is only 1MB (attached here). The app runs on Qt >= 4.3; if you don't have it installed on your puppy, just run this 5.9 MB pet (will install libQtCo...
