When you start retrovol as smokey01 says, then raise any volume control that looks "promising." PCM, Front, and Master, etc. Different sound cards have different controls. It is possible that retrovol will not start because no sound card has been properly detected and configured. Please try the retrovol approach first, but if that does not work, you can then try Menu -> Setup -> ALSA Sound Wizard.
The reasons this happend was that Lucid 5.2.8 upgrades to the latest version of the ALSA sound system, 1.0.24-2. It doesn't happen often that the sound gets lost, but it has happended a few times.

Just type retrovol in a terminal window and it should return.
Maybe a second reboot will help, sometimes does.

Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 has openbox as default and JWM only if one switch to it?
How does one know which one are in? I don't remember if I tested to go into JWM or not.
I did a frugal install on an Acer netbook for to test Fido but there seems to be no Fido there? Was that intentional or did I do something wrong that failed to activate Fido? I'm in Snow puppy now

Unfortunately, I am not able to take a backup of the system. I can always take the personal files to external HDD, but not the system.
How about re-partitioning? I have never done that before and my win7 uses NTFS system. Also I must remember the upgrade. The full install is perhaps harder to update?
This doesn't seem to be easy.  |
The easiest thing for you to do is a frugal install of Puppy to the same partition Windows 7 is on.
A frugal install just puts some files on the partition and they have no effect on Windows 7. They just take up space.

Just checking in- frugal install on my A31 thinkpad. So far everything works OOTB- sound-flashplayer-wireless. I must say that using puppy is like a breath of fresh air. I have been playing around with various distros with KDE and they are so slowwww on this lappy(2Ghz P4 with 512mb ram).
way to go!

but I get curious one why you can not do a frugal install on that ntfs.
I have done that and now have these to chose upon at boot.

Maybe Lupu 528 have no Fido? Mick wants us to test Fido so I thought I would do it in Lupu 528 I know some version of pesmasu's puppies have fido. Polar puppy. The latest Snow most likely.

Hi 8-bit,
Pup-SysInfo does not install sensors-detection utilities, but will call the 'sensors' and 'sensors-detect' utilities if they are currently installed in a Puppy derivative, or will provide notification when those utilities are not available. If not already installed, you will find the appropriate sensors-detection utilities and support libraries in the CPUtemp program by rcrsn51. Lastly, you reference a symlink of zenity to /usr/loal/bin/yad in your program, but this is not necessary in Pup-SysInfo which uses gtkdialog, rather than zenity or yad.
BTW, the next release of PupControl will include an updated Pup-SysInfo-1.1, with additional information options.

Thanks guys, I managed to upgrade my Puppy. 
I was just thinking to install this updated Puppy to HDD. There is win7 already in the HDD. Is the process hard to complete and should I take it as frugal or full?
This is for space which is going to end and I want to get an additional usb place.

Is there any chance of using ndiswrapper with a windows driver for the wireless device in those versions that do not have wireless working?
I had to do that with Puppy Lucid on a Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 laptop that did not have the correct driver in the kernel.
Using ndiswrapper and the windows driver, the connection did not drop out. But when I tried using a linux driver, I could not keep a connection.
BTW, the laptop came with Win7 64bit and I was booting Puppy Lucid 520 from a USB stick.
